Job Purpose of the Job:

To develop strategies and facilitate implementation of the East African Community Early Warning Systems (EACEWS) Protocol and Mechanism.

Tasks and responsibilities

  1. Facilitate the process of the completion of the EAC Early Warning Framework and develop strategies for its implementation framework;
  2. Develop data collection tools, collect, collate and analyse information for reporting;
  3. Put in place early response modalities and reporting mechanisms;
  4. Identify capacity gaps at policy levels and other key stakeholders at Partner States levels, for implementation of the framework implementation partners;
  5. Develop and elaborate modalities for interface with the AU Centres for Early Warning systems (CEWS) through the situation room;
  6. Produce Early Warning reports and alerts;
  7. Any other duties that may be assigned by management .

Qualifications and Experience:

  1. A Master’s Degree from recognized institution in Social Sciences preferably Peace, Conflict, Diplomacy, International Relations, Public Administration.
  2. Ten (10) years relevant experience.

Skills and competencies:

The ideal candidate should demonstrate good leadership, planning, interpersonal, communication and report writing skills. S/he must be a team player and must be fully conversant with the operational and functional aspects of early warning and response, have monitoring and evaluation capabilities, professional experience in CPMR and demonstrate practical or professional exposure to early warning systems, prove proficiency in English and computer application, have good report writing skills, ability to network and work with both state and non state actors and be conversant with the EAC and its goals.

Eligibility for applications:

Applicants from only Republic of Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Kenya, Republic of Rwanda, Republic of South Sudan, Republic of Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania are eligible to apply for the above position.

Terms and Conditions of Service

The above position is tenable for a contract of six (6) months.

Education Qualifications 

All candidates applying must have qualifications that are recognized by the relevant national accreditation body in their respective Partner State. This condition is applicable for locally and internationally attained qualifications.

Relevant Working Experience 

Internship, training and apprenticeship will not be considered as relevant work experience.
