Maternity Africa operates from its base at Kivulini Maternity Centre outside the city of Arusha in Northern Tanzania.

About the Role

This is a fixed term employment contract position, the nature of the job involves working routinely with staff and patients (mostly pregnant women and women with various birth injuries), alternated night shift duties, Performing outreaches quarterly in various regions of Tanzania and handling minor vehicle mechanics issues. The workstation is currently in Arusha, with a possibility of time-to-time travel to Dodoma.

Key Responsibilities

  • I am routinely attending to the driving responsibility of staff and patients according to the daily arising needs/and or routes.
  • Vehicle Maintenance – Ensuring that vehicles are well maintained, conducting regular checks, are in clean and hygienic state, alerting/arranging repairs when necessary and maintenance schedules.
  • Ensuring up-to-date vehicle registrations, licenses, other vehicle documentation, and motor vehicle safety equipment and tools are available in the cars as the laws require.
  • Reporting any adverse observations, events, or situations concerning the vehicles and its operations.
  • Emergency response – handling emergencies such as accidents or breakdowns, coordinating responses.
  • Ensuring standard vehicle maintenance/repairs are performed by vendors (garage) in cases of breakdown.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Requirements

  • Form Four Certificates.
  • National Institute of Transport (NIT) driver’s qualifying Certificate.
  • A valid driving license.
  • Basic vehicle mechanics certificate.
  • 3 years minimum working experience in an Organizational setting.

Competencies and Skills Required

  • Conversant with both written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
  • Vehicle Mechanics Skills.
  • Knowledge of Tanzanian Road and Traffic Regulations.
  • Physical capability and skills to drive long distances and on unfriendly roads.
  • Good Communication and Interpersonal skills.
  • Compassionate and can handle patients with kindness and love.
