PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To ensure that emergency response programme at Geita Gold Mine is of standard level that facilitates optimal operation in terms of timely response, cost effectiveness and of international standard level of operation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of Secondary Education and Diploma in Nursing/Clinical Officer and a Paramedic.
- Qualification issued by accredited authority such as BLS, ACLS, ITLS and critical care monitoring.
- Registered with Medical Council of Tanganyika or the Tanzania Nurses and Midwifery Council.
- Must possess a valid Tanzania Driving License Class B & D and must pass site driving assessment.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 3 years’ working experience in clinical/emergency setting.
- Experience in a remote healthcare setting with the provision of emergency medical.
- Experience in emergency response/stabilization and primary healthcare.
- Experience in health prevention and promotion programmes, including first aid trainings.
- Experience in health administration services, hygiene, and sanitation.
MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Attending all medical emergencies that may arise on site.
- Serve as a member of the mine rescue team on site and always show commitment.
- Assist in the equipment inspection and manage safe storage and readiness.
- Prepare daily, weekly, monthly activity plans.
- Conducting daily/weekly/monthly inspection of emergency equipment.
- Performing clinical functions and reporting abnormalities to the staff physician. The clinical functions are:
- Taking patient information e.g. medical history, vital signs, intake, and output.
- Applying dressings.
- Taking specimens from patients e.g. urine and blood.
- Giving oral medication to patients as prescribed.
- Administering intra-muscular injections as prescribed.
- Inserting catheters or IV lines.
- Initiating basic nursing interventions e.g. administering oxygen, arresting hemorrhages, cardio-pulmonary resuscitations until assistance arrives.
- Cares for dying patients and maintains the dignity of the recently deceased, which entails cleaning, dressing and the laying out of the body.
- Educating patients and their relatives on preventive and promotive health care practices e.g. infant care, breast feeding, immunization, nutrition, substance abuse, personal and environmental hygiene, infectious diseases, STD’s and how and when to take their medication.
- Counselling patients as instructed by superiors.
- Assisting medical practitioners with certain procedures e.g. preparing instruments or procedure trays, assisting with lumbar punctures and in minor procedures.
- Escorting patients to other hospitals, which entails observing the patients’ condition and rendering medical care that could be required during transit.
- Cleaning all working surfaces, trolleys, instruments and hollowware by disinfecting areas or equipment after use or as observed that this is required in accordance with infection control protocols and procedures.
- Reporting health and safety risks or hazards as detected to the matron for correction.
- Assisting in visual examinations, audiometric testing, lung function testing and physical examinations whenever required.
- Assisting the pharmacist with the stocktaking by receiving, packing, or counting medical stock.
- Monitor Emergence Response system.
- Recommend improvement in areas of non-compliance based on monitoring, quarterly reviews, and annual audit findings.
- Develop, implement, and maintain emergency response program site wide.
- Coordination and training of rescue teams, carry out evacuations and drills as per schedule.
- Ensuring that all emergency equipment and company assets allocated to the section are maintained in a good working order.
- Ensure all first aid boxes are well equipped and managed.
- Maintain ER and keeping it neat and orderly.
- Provide pre-hospital emergency care to patients within the site and outside the mine whenever required.
- Train other medical staff on emergency issues.
- Manage lower-level administrative issues.
- Compile statistics as required.
- Perform and oversee daily equipment and ambulance checklists.
- Liaise with the Staff physician with regards to medical issues as required.
- Accompany patients at time of emergency evacuations if necessary.
- Assures that uniform is worn and that it is clean and in good repair.
- Advises supervisor when leaving the clinic to perform other duties.
- Maintains radio/mobile communication while away from clinic during work hours.
- Any task as assigned by the supervisor.
